THE RINGING BELL In some old movies, there would sometimes be a scene of a church steeple that housed a bell. When an emergency would arise in the town, someone would go to the bell tower and hang on the rope to ring the bell, and then the townspeople would come running. After the bell had rung for a while, the person on the rope would jump off, yet the bell would continue to ring for a time, but then it would gradually slow down, and finally grow quiet. The momentum kept the bell ringing for a time, even after the person had let go of the rope. It seems that some tests can be similar. When a test arises, it may gain momentum, but when you exercise your authority over that sit- uation, know that the devil flees – he’s off the rope. Oh yes, the bell may continue to ring for a time, the test may seem to have continued movement for a time, but that’s just from the momentum of the devil having been there. You just continue to stand your ground on God’s Word, and know that the enemy has fled. If you do, the momentum of that test will decrease and decline until it finally ceases altogether.
