God caused the earth to open up and swallow all 250 of the critical leaders, along with their wives and kids. The next day the ignorant Israelites started to grumble against Moses again, complaining that he had killed their leaders. Now if I had been there and heard that grumbling, I hope I would have said, “Mary, go get the kids. We are going to get away from here now, as fast as we can, because something bad is coming.” And, I would have been right. Because of the grumbling, God released a plague against them the next day! Moses was an incredible person. I probably would have said, “God, go get the grumblers. Strike them dead!” Instead, Moses knelt down and interceded for the plague to stop. It did, but only after 14,700 Israelites died. In Numbers 12, Aaron and Miriam are very critical of Moses because after his wife died he took another wife. They did not approve of the woman he selected. Well, God called Aaron and Miriam out and essentially said, “Who do you think you are?” Miriam ended up with leprosy.
