DON’T GIVE PLACE TO THE DEVIL Smith Wigglesworth tells of the time he was awakened one night when he felt an evil presence in his room. He turned over in his bed to see Satan sitting on his bed. And, I have watched the Lord repeatedly remove the troublemakers, even sending them out of the city. Four or five times in our own church we have had people try to sow serious discord. Each time, the dissenter has tried to draw other people to themselves while attacking the credibility of the pastors. As God took those people out of our church to start their own small gathering, I cannot think of one that was blessed. God does not honor those people who sow discord and dissention, then go off and try and start something new. I’ve never seen anything good come out of dissention. Usually, within a year or two, the dissenting group is not even meeting anymore. I believe people who instigate dissention pay a precious price because this gossip and dissention is sin and will affect a person’s relationship with God until one repents. Since God has instituted His delegated authority in the church, He is also bound by His honor to maintain and defend it. Fearing the Lord Involves Respecting God’s Delegated Authority That is a serious reality. I have seen God defend His delegated authority over and over again, dealing quickly with those who oppose His appointed pastors. Many endeavor to resist the devil by telling him to go, but then they pause a moment to see if it worked – to see if he left. They check their mind to see whether or not the thought is still there. Don’t check your mind to see if it worked – that’s not faith. When you resist the devil, answer him with the Word and then refuse to touch the wrong thought in your thought life; don’t think about it – quit handling it mentally – let it go – let it go out of your thought life. One strategy of the enemy is to suggest something repeatedly to the mind, in hopes of getting you to believe it. Just because he suggests something repeatedly doesn’t make it true. Repetition doesn’t make it true. Answer those thoughts with the Word, no matter how many times he suggests it, and then start praising God for His Word – that’s how you hold yourself in the faith arena, the spirit arena, and out of the mental arena.
