Mrs. C Hopson-Above the Storm

Because the eagle makes his nest so high up, he doesn’t
have to fear many predators. But there is one enemy
that can be deadly to the baby eaglets if they are not protected
by their parents. This enemy is the snake. He will
seek to slither up the mountain, cliff, or tree and try to stay
hidden until he appears in the nest. If the eaglets spot him,
they will screech as loud as they can, which is a call for
help from their mother. If she is close by, she will swoop
in to rescue her young. She will either peck the snake to
death right there or even bite his head completely off.
Another way she might get rid of the enemy is to grab it
with her strong talons and fly in search of a sharp rock or
cliff and then throw it against the rock to kill it. In both
instances, the attack on the enemy is immediate and successful.
She doesn’t wait to see what will happen, she is
keenly aware of the danger and the enemy is not welcome
in her home.
