I used to wonder why Paul had to endure so much during
his years of ministry. Why did God allow things to be
so difficult when he was choosing to serve the Lord so
faithfully? But, as I’ve studied the books of the New Testament
that Paul has penned, I’ve realized that the disappointments,
the imprisonments, the beatings, the betrayals
by friends and the changed plans are what make his
testimony and his faithfulness to the Lord so real and powerful
in my life. I’ve read his books over and over and
memorized large portions of them and they have always
encouraged, challenged, and uplifted me. When Paul says,
“For me to live is Christ…,” I know he means it and I can
see how he lived that out in various situations.
