Mrs Carol Hopson-Trusting God in Troubled Times

5. "I will lift up my hands in Your name" (v. 4, NKJV ). As an Old Testament posture of prayer, lifted-up hands were a picture of sending prayers up to God, as well as a readiness to receive that which God gave back to the believer. It was an outward evidence of putting one's trust in God alone, and that is what David is doing here. He also must have realized that God would be the Righteous Judge of all the wrong that was done to him, so he didn't have to seek his own revenge. That's what we were reminded of in the opening verse…that Jesus kept "entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously" (1 Peter 2:23).
