Dan’s story was so encouraging I wanted more, so I walked
across the hall to the office of Dan’s brother, Jim, who is Pastor
of Discipleship and Small Groups at our church. I asked Jim the
same question I had asked Dan.
“Christmas!” Jim replied. He explained that a couple of years
earlier at Christmas time he had a financially difficult
month...vehicles broke down and there were other unexpected
drains on his income. His Christmas budget was small but he
deeply desired to continue his family’s Christmas tradition of
blessing a needy family with groceries and gifts. Jim and his
wife, Melanie, scraped together forty dollars to spend on a family
they knew had great need. It would not buy much but they were
determined to give.
