Almost as impossible as picturing God is envisioning those
surrounding His throne. John described creatures with faces you
can easily imagine...a lion, a calf, a man and an eagle...but when
he writes that they are covered with eyes, the images blur and
evaporate! We simply have no point of reference to picture these
creatures.
Ezekiel 1:1-21 describes similar beings but says the eyes
cover the wheels next to each creature. I have read these verses
more times than I can tell you, yet it remains as great a mystery
to me as it was on my first reading.
