An Issue of the Heart
There is no question in my mind that Jesus expected His
followers to tithe. One third of His parables deal with money.
One sixth of the gospel scriptures refer to money or possessions.
God placed great emphasis on this subject because a person’s
heart is tied to what they treasure [Matthew 6:21].
Tithing is really a test of your heart. It poses the question,
“What do you really believe about God’s faithfulness and His
promises?” It is one thing to believe in eternal life and quite
another to trust God with ten percent of your money.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you
tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the
weightier provisions of the law; justice and mercy and
faithfulness; but these are the things you should have
done without neglecting the others. [Matthew 23:23]
