Jesus was instructing them to follow His example and
develop a daily prayer life with God. He knew His followers
would encounter struggles and wanted them to understand that
perseverance is essential for victory.
Years ago it was common for people to use the phrase
“praying through.” If a believer had a struggle or need, they
would pray through the issue until God’s response was apparent.
Today, it is more common for believers to give up than to pray
through. They pray about something and when the answer is not
immediately evident, they stop praying. Often these people
spend the rest of their lives believing God did not answer their
prayer. That is not what happened...they gave up too soon!
