Children often don’t understand this and think it is
mean. They especially try to maneuver and charm their
grandparents into bending the rules. Of course, Nana and
Papa do get to bend some of the rules at times, (like having
sugar-coated cereals in all shapes and colors) but never
to the detriment of the child. Because we love them, we
must keep their best interest foremost when they are with
us. That is the loving thing to do. Sometimes, it’s very difficult
to not give in to them because they associate “their
desires” with love, but we know that is only immature
thinking. And so, out of our love, we do what is best, not
what makes them feel good at the time.
