Mr. D.J. Wourms, D.D.S

Should I Get a Root Canal if Needed, or
Have the Tooth Pulled and Get an Implant?
In almost all cases, if you have a tooth that can be
treated with root canal treatment, have the natural tooth
treated and save it for as long as you can. Root canal
treatment only removes the nerve inside of the tooth that
gives you feeling to hot and cold things. You still have
living cells on the outside of the root that form a biologic
connection to a layer of tissue called the periodontal
ligament. These living cells protect your jawbone from
bacterial invasion along the sides of your teeth. Yes, a root
canal treated tooth can sometimes fail, but some implants
fail also. Inmy opinion, do not have an implant placed until
there is no other option.
