Dave Hoffman-Fear of the Lord

Reasons NOT to Read the Bible
Ask any Christian if they believe reading the Bible is
important and they will almost certainly answer emphatically,
“Yes!” Yet in twenty plus years as a pastor...and even more as a
Christian...I have heard just about every excuse that exists for
not reading the Bible. A strong possibility exists that the first
time I heard these reasons was when I used them myself!
Here are six of the most common reasons given for not
reading the Bible—followed by my response to each:
1. “I’m just too busy.”
Really? Guess what the number one moneymaking industry
is in the United States? Leisure time activity! What does that
tell us? We must have some leisure time! You and I are given
1,440 minutes every single day of our lives! Assuming we sleep
for 8 hours each night, that leaves 960 minutes each day for
working, driving, eating and everything else. Certainly we can
spare 10 or 15 of those minutes to read the Bible. I want to
challenge you to read just one or two chapters of the Bible each
day. That is about what you will cover in 10 or 15 minutes. If
you do that five days a week you will receive a life-changing
return on your investment. Do the reading with your spouse and
the dividends are even higher!
