For years I thought God’s answer was weird. Was He saying:
“I AM God. I AM the Lord. I AM the God Most High.”
I am certain Moses walked away from that conversation
scratching his head, exclaiming, “I’m going to tell them “I AM”
sent me?” Moses was an educated man, so God may have been
testing his faith. Or perhaps God knew there was no description
He could give Moses that the Hebrew slaves would understand.
They did not have the Bible as we do today, and did not know
that God is:
Elohim, the Creator
El-Elyon, God Most High
El-Roi, the God Who Sees All
El-Shaddai, God All Sufficient
Adonai, the Self-Existent One
Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord Who Provides
Jehovah-Rophe, the Lord who heals
Jehovah-Saboath, the Lord of Hosts
God spoke the only thing they could understand, “Moses, just
tell them that I AM. I AM yesterday, I AM now and I AM the
future.” God is eternal so He always IS. I think His message to
Moses was: “You have a beginning and an end - but I AM.”
