The Tithe
The Bible calls God’s portion of the possessions you have “first
fruits.” They are to be used for one purpose...to honor God.
Honor the LORD from your wealth, and from the first of all
your produce. [Proverbs 3:9]
In biblical times the first fruits were the first ten percent or a
tithe of what a person produced for their livelihood. The economy
was based on agriculture, so people offered the first ten percent
of each crop to the Lord.
