Fear of the Lord-Pastor Dave Hoffman
In 1 Samuel 26, David could have killed Saul, but instead
decided to allow God to deal with Saul. David refused to take
matters into his own hands, rather waiting and trusting on God
to deal with His delegated authority.
We all need to be careful concerning our attitudes, thoughts,
words and deeds against God’s delegated authority. We must not
undermine spiritual leadership in any way because we might
hinder what God is trying to do through the Body of Christ, and
in our lives.
When you come across a person sowing discord and dissention
in the church, questioning, criticizing and demeaning leadership,
here’s what the Bible tells you to do:
Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who
cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the
teaching, which you learned, and turn away from them.
18 For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of
their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering
speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.
[Romans 16:17-18]
Pride is frequently the source of the dissention, and for some
reason, proud people try to gather as many other people as they
can to join in their dissention. Paul tells us to “turn away” from
them.
Remember, if we fear God we will submit to His
authority in the church.
