MOVING INTO THE UNKNOWN Abraham was called by God to leave his family and home, and to move into the unknown. He spent the rest of his days following God into the unknown because he was living and moving in faith. He left his home for a city whose builder and maker was God. God didn’t give him a map; he just followed God into the unknown every day. Hebrews 11:8 tells us, “[Urged on] by faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went forth to a place which he was destined to receive as an inheritance; and he went, although HE DID NOT KNOW OR TROUBLE HIS MIND ABOUT WHERE HE WAS TO GO” (Amplified Bible). Do you have the faith to move forward into the unknown? When God leads in a certain direction, faith will go, even when it doesn’t know all the details; faith will go “not knowing”, because faith isn’t disturbed by all the “unknowns” of life, for it is focused on the One who knows all. We are to stay focused on the One who gives all the answers as we need them. Questions are of the mental realm. Questions are of the natural realm. Answers are of the faith realm. Answers are of the spirit realm. Answers are of God’s realm. There are no questions in God. There are no questions in God’s realm. Instead of being occupied with the questions life presents, leave the natural realm and move into the faith realm. Trust the God of all answers to lead you through His Word and by His Spirit. Asking a lot of questions and trying to figure out things just holds you in the mental arena. You are to live in the arena of faith, the spirit arena. Faith in your heart will work even when you have questions or doubts in your mind; just lean to your heart and not to your mind. Don’t try to figure everything out, but trust God to supply your needs. Release the faith that’s in your heart by boldly confessing that God supplies all your needs (Philippians 4:19). If you become occupied with the unknown things of life, you can get into worry. That’s what faith is for – to deal with the unknown in life. We face the unknown with faith, not worry. We live by faith. We live our lives trusting God to lead, guide and supply in the face of all that is unknown. Worry and doubt focuses on questions, but faith trusts God in the face of the unknown. Don’t be occupied with what you don’t know; rather, be occupied with the Word. Just walk in the light of what you do know; be a doer of the Word. Where do all these distractions come from, and why are they so enticing? Let no one say when he is tempted, 'I am being tempted by God'; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. -James 1:13-14 It is our own lusts, which are part of our old nature, that draw us into temptation. That's why Paul said "this one thing I do." He was always focused on moving forward in love and obedience to the Lord. Then when distractions came, he knew it wasn't part of "the one thing" God had called him to do. You see, Philippians 3:14 says that Paul was always pressing toward "the goal" or "the mark." This was a picture of someone running a race and always focusing on the goal line, or the picture of someone shooting an arrow at a target in archery; they always had to keep their eye on "the mark" or the target, because that was their whole purpose-to hit the mark. On our wedding day Mary and I made a covenant to be faithful
to each other. That covenant is a reflection of the Church. God
always remains faithful to us, and so too Mary and I are to always
remain faithful to each other. God invites anyone who would want
to put Him to the test to see that He keeps covenant with the
Church. Christian couples in the Church cannot separate
character and integrity from their faithfulness in keeping
covenant. If we do not keep covenant, we do not have integrity and
character
We are called to be covenant keepers. Our word should be our
bond. Our testimony to the world outside the Church is that if
we make a promise, we keep our covenants.
When I married my wife it was for life, through the good
times and through the problems. I’ll never forget one day my wife
looked at me with fire in her eyes and declared, “I hate you.” I
thought to myself, “This woman has some major problems!” I
called a marriage counselor and explained, “My wife has major
problems. Her emotional responses are being dictated by her
past hurts and dysfunctions. Mary needs some major healing
and I feel you and your wife are the perfect counselors for her.”

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Jesus is telling us not to worry about the daily necessities of food or clothing. If God doesn’t want us to worry about the smallest details of the daily necessities of life, how much more He doesn’t want us to worry about life’s bigger needs. In verse 27 the question is asked, “Which of you by taking thought can add….” To “take thought” is to worry. Things aren’t added to your life through worry. Worry only subtracts – it never adds anything to your life. Verse 31 reads, “Therefore take no thought, saying… .” How do you take thoughts of worry? Through saying. Don’t say thoughts of worry. Verse 31 continues to read, “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?” Notice that three questions are asked in this verse. This verse is warning us not to get into worry by asking a lot of questions: Why is this happening? What are we going to do? Where’s the money going to come from? BEWARE OF DISTRACTIONS Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 3:13-14 Distractions are like Krispy Krème doughnuts! They're so enticing and seem so harmless when you're indulging. As I sat in Starbucks this morning, I observed a mother feeding her five- or six-year-old child Krispy Krème doughnuts and hot chocolate for breakfast. Now believe me, it looked delicious to me, and the child was certainly enjoying all of it. But I began to think about what that breakfast would produce later, and I began to pity the teacher who would have this child in her classroom. After being in education for over forty years, my husband and I have seen the consequences of all that sugar in a little body, and it isn't good at all. What that precious child needs is a good, healthy, nourishing breakfast that helps the brain function properly and gives the body the vitamins and proteins it needs to grow strong. My way was to be angry, very angry, at their lack of sensitivity and planning. My way was to feel very sorry for myself and decide to never come back to this church again, if asked. My way was to just get through the retreat with my focus on getting out of there and getting home! But was that God's way? "Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another…" (Ephesians 4:32, KJV) came to mind. Would my wounded ego forgive these people? Then I remembered, "Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…" (Colossians 3:17). That meant that even in this situation, my priority was to represent Jesus, to act as He would. The battle raged in me while the worship music played on. You see, I had yet another war going on inside as the fifteenminute praise and worship part of the service went on for forty minutes. It was now 9:00 p.m. and I hadn't even been introduced yet. I had a one-hour message, which they had notes for, and we were already an hour behind schedule. Are you getting a feeling for what was going on inside of my very human heart? "My sheep hear My voice and they know Me and they follow Me…" "OK, Lord, I am Your sheep, a very weary, frustrated sheep, but I will follow and leave all my anger and frustration in Your hands." At that moment, God began healing me and gave me a renewed desire to serve Him at any cost. The battle came and went over and over during the weekend, but each time I had to say, "I'll follow Jesus!" The last morning of the retreat, we had more than fifty decisions for Christ…both new believers and recommitments. Praise God for His work in all of us…especially me! God's way was to do a work in me…to teach me that life and ministry are not about me! He was reminding me that I'm not in this for comfort or to receive special attention, but I'm doing this work because He called me to it…for His glory, not mine! As I put my injured pride aside, God drew me closer to Himself, and I could again thank Him for another lesson in humility and trust. As we read through the Bible it is easy to discern that God judges His people by how they keep His covenant with them. In the New Testament, we have a new covenant with God that is based on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus said: I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? [John 11: 25-26] When you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, He gives you eternal life, starting right now! There are two aspects to your eternal life: One: When the body dies, your spirit and soul live on forever, and Two: You have eternal life starting when you accept Jesus. He declared that in this eternal life begun living now there is abundance, a way to live that can bless you in your life, your marriage, your finances. [John 10:10] Just look to Him first and submit to His Word, and you will be blessed. The Bible is an invitation to study God’s faithfulness in keeping His covenant. The longer I live as a Christian, the more I can testify that God is a covenant-keeping God. God keeps His promises. PRAYERS THAT WORK
Philippians 4:6 reads, “Be careful for nothing; but in everything
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be

Before you pray, you’re going to have to quit fretting and quit
being anxious; only then can you pray effectively. That’s why the
prayers of some people don’t work, because they’re worrying and
fretting. You can’t worry and be in faith at the same time. If prayer is
to work, you must release faith, but worry will keep your faith from
working.
It may not always be the easiest thing in the world to quit worrying
about a situation, but we can quit worrying or God wouldn’t
have told us in His Word not to do it. God doesn’t tell us to do something
we can’t do; He would be unjust in telling us to do something
if it was impossible for us to do.
Before we ever pray, we need to deal with worry, then our faith
will work and our prayers will work.

If we’re not to worry, then what are we to do? First Peter 5:7 tells us, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” The Amplified Bible reads, “Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” He’s watching. He sees you. He sees what you’re facing and He wants to take care of that problem, but He can’t if you’re going to hold onto it. Let it go! Tell the Lord that you’re casting all your cares, worries and anxieties on Him, and then let it go. Let it go from your thought life. Let it go from your conversations. Let it go! When you cast your care on the Lord, you’re putting the problem in His hands, and He can work on it. But if you take it back through worry, then He can’t work on it because you’ve got it, not Him. Leave it in His hands – He can take care of it. If the temptation to worry comes back to you, say, “No, I’ve cast that care over on the Lord and I’m not taking it back. I’ve put it in His hands and He’s taking care of it.” If you’re awakened in the middle of the night and tempted to worry, say, “I refuse to worry. I’ve cast that care over on the Lord and I’m not taking it back. I’ve put it in His hands and He’s taking care of it.” Then refuse to touch it in your thought life, refuse to think about it, and praise your way back to sleep. Three Foundational Truths In almost every Bible translation, the word “submit” best communicates what God is talking about here, so I am going to use that word in my writing. Wives, be subject [submissive] to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject [submissive] to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourish and cherish it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body. FOR THIS CAUSE A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER, AND SHALL CLEAVE TO HIS WIFE; AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. One woman I know had been domineering and controlling in
her marriage for over 25 years, then she got saved. This woman
started to take seriously her roles and responsibilities in
marriage, especially where the Lord said to submit to her
husband’s leadership. After about three months, her husband
woke her at 2:00 a.m. and said, “I can’t stand this anymore!
What has happened to you? Suddenly you are everything I have
ever wanted. What has changed you? It is the church you’re
going to?”
She opened up the Word of God and explained to him her role
in marriage. The man’s mouth dropped open, and he said, “If
God can do that for you, I want Him in my life right now.” He
then knelt down and received Jesus.
Do not ever underestimate the power of obeying the Word of
God in your marriage!
In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own
husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to
the word, they may be won without a word by the
behavior of their wives. [1 Peter 3:1]

Another person may argue, “Well, I’m in this bad situation because of what someone else did.” It doesn’t matter. You’re not to fret or have any anxiety about anything! You’re not to worry about anything! When the Word says “anything” it means anything! How do you know if you’re worrying? If you’re thinking about it! Worry is meditation in the negative direction. Worry opens the door to the enemy. Worry can break down the mind and the body if it is persisted in. God wants to spare us from the difficulties worry brings, so He tells us not to do it. When we obey God’s Word and refuse to worry, then we’ll be blessed. But anytime we disobey God’s Word, it’s a sin, so worry is a sin because God said not to do it. NO MORE WORRY In the miracle service that night, the Spirit of God told us that one way we can open the door to sickness or defeat is through the loss of peace. If you are a divorced person reading this, do not let the enemy
try and put you in some kind of condemnation, especially if you
are now remarried. Focus on making the marriage you are in, to
make it the best it can be.
I am absolutely convinced that generally divorce is wrong.
When divorce does happen, even with biblical justification, it still
should be the very last resort, after prayer and counseling.
Many differ on what constitutes a biblical right for divorce.
Personally, I believe that theologically there are three reasons:
adultery [Matt. 9:9], desertion [1 Cor. 7:15], and if they killed you
for it in the Old Testament. [If they killed you, there wasn’t any
need for divorce.] [i.e., homosexuality, sorcery, etc.] If you had a
divorce for unbiblical reasons, I hope you have repented and
have asked the Lord to forgive you for rejecting His Word. Then,
tell Him that you are committed to His Word in your current
covenant relationship. You may have been divorced four times,
but if you really repent and seek after God now, He’ll bless your
current marriage. Jesus is only concerned about the marriage
you have right now!

Years ago, I read that the United States government didn't use fake money to teach Treasury agents to detect counterfeit bills. They only showed them real money over and over until they had every detail memorized. Then, when they saw a counterfeit, it looked so different to them that they were able to instantly recognize it. We spend too much time focusing on the counterfeits in this world and not enough time focusing on the "real thing"! If we focus on God's Word and, by doing so, listen to His voice over and over, we will be able to recognize the "counterfeit" voices much easier. Personally, the counterfeit voices tell me that I need to worry about my future, about the U.S. economy, and what I hear in the news every day. They also say that I need to be overly concerned about my physical appearance and standing up for my rights. Listening to my Shepherd's voice changes everything! His desire is that I would find my security and hope in Him alone. He wants me to love Him above all else…for who He is…for all He's done…for all He continues to do each day as He leads, guides, and cares for me. You see, getting back to little Lucy, as she began spending time with her Papa, feeling his love, care, and protection, she began to respond with open arms and great affection. She had gotten to know her Papa again! Getting reacquainted with your heavenly Papa will give you peace, comfort, and security in these uncertain days! As divorces increased, the Church focus shifted to love, forgiveness, and grace. Now, I’m glad for these three gifts, but when it comes to divorce, the Church message should be: “Divorce is our enemy. There are consequences to a divorce. The truth here is really quite simple: If you reject God’s plans
for marriage, you are going to suffer the consequences, especially
when troubles come into your life. If your marriage is not based
on a firm biblical foundation concerning what God says about

serious problems.
On the other hand, if you build your marriage on the biblical

My wife, Mary, and I had some serious problems early on in
our marriage. One day I realized that I was trying to make Mary
think like me. When she didn’t, I became very upset. Of course,

Years ago, I was in the home of a world renowned evangelist. As he was showing us through his home, I remarked how wonderful his backyard was; it was a lush garden with beautiful flowers and trees everywhere. When I commented on its beauty, he said, “Pay whatever it costs to buy peace.” His comment has stayed with me through the years, for I have come to know how precious peace is. Free from Worry Several years ago, I was in a miracle service where my husband was teaching on divine healing. At the end of his sermon, he turned to me and asked me if I had anything from the Lord. I got up, took the microphone and began speaking in other tongues, then I interpreted into English what I had spoken in other tongues; this happened three times. What the Spirit said to us that night was that there are three primary ways sickness or defeat enters the life of the believer. These aren’t the only ways, but they are three primary ways the Spirit gave. They are: 1. through loss of peace 2. through turning away from God’s plan – In John 4:34, Jesus declared, “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” Jesus was saying that just as meat nourished and sustained His body, doing the will of God nourished and sustained His life. 3. through lack of gratitude – Deuteronomy 28:47 & 48 reads, “Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joyfulness of [mind and] heart [in gratitude] for the abundance of all [with which He had blessed you], therefore you shall serve your enemies…” (Amplified Bible). Hebrews 13:15 instructs us, “Through Him, therefore, let us CONSTANTLY AND AT ALL TIMES offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.” As we praise God in gratitude for all His blessings, it helps us to stay mindful of them and they will continue to flow in our lives. THE WORK OF GOD John 6:28 & 29 records a question the disciples asked Jesus, “…What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the WORK of God, that ye BELIEVE… .” To believe God is work – it’s not play. It’s work to renew your mind with the Word of God. It’s work to discipline your thought life. It’s work to pay attention to the words that come out of your mouth. It’s work to refuse to worry when circumstances are pressing on your mind and on your body. It’s work to develop your spirit and to develop your faith so you can move forward with God. But what a grand, wonderful work it is! What a joy to believe God and to work with Him! It’s a glorious thing to get to stand on God’s Word, for it never fails. It’s a wonderful thing to get to lay the hand of faith to all that God has provided and draw it into every arena of your life. Keep feeding on the Word of God, for it will feed your spirit, renew your mind, and cause your faith to be robust. What do we give to God on a daily basis? A few minutes of prayer and maybe a little time for Bible study…sometimes we think of Him in our day…but do we give Him our very best, what we love the most? God wants our total devotion and the things we love the most…our children, our treasured desires, our surrendered will, our money, and our complete trust. That day in church made such an impact on me, that my daddy would think that giving me to the Lord was the greatest gift He could give. He didn't ask God to not take me faraway to serve in a foreign country. He didn't ask God to make my life comfortable and remove all obstacles. He asked that God would use me for His glory, however He chose! God's Word so clearly tells us that this should be our attitude in everything. If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water. [John 7:37-38] Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. [John 6:35] The two scriptures at the start of this chapter are foundational to having a good marriage. They reveal that Jesus has the spiritual food prepared to satisfy our innermost desires and needs, including in the area of marriage. Jesus is essentially saying through these scriptures: “Do you want to have a good marriage? Do you want to have your needs met in your marriage as I have ordained? Do you want to be able to tell everyone what a wonderful marriage you have, what a wonderful spouse you have, how blessed you are? Then come to Me. Do things My way, take seriously what I have to say and your innermost needs will be satisfied!” Jesus is inviting us to look to Him and experience marriage as He meant it to be! Marriage God’s way.
