Anticipating the arrival of the family, I had decorated
every inch of the house. But the main attraction was the
full-size manger in the living room. Years ago, my husband
built me a rough hewn manger which was just big
enough for a life-sized baby. Each year I put fresh hay in
it, wrap a porcelain baby doll in swaddling clothes and put
it in the manger. There would be sheep lying around it and
lighted trees behind it. Then the entire manger is wrapped
in a huge gold bow with a gift tag on it. The tag simply
reads, “For You.” Nearby is a framed print of John 3:16.
Anyone entering my home sees what we are celebrating
and it has opened many conversations with people who
come to our front door.
