The difference in the reaction of the two women I wrote
about is this. The first woman was “working for God” and
trying to be a Christian by doing good things. However,
after getting to know her better, I realized that she had
never committed her life to the Lord and had never
received Him as her Lord and Savior. Therefore, she could
continue in her life of sin and not feel the “pull” of conviction
on her life. I saw hopelessness and defeat in her, but
not conviction. I still pray that she will truly find peace by
turning from her worldly life and by receiving God’s free
gift of forgiveness and salvation.
The second woman belonged to the Lord and He wouldn’t
let her go. The pull to return home was too great
because of the Holy Spirit residing in her. I’m so thankful
that God loves us enough to give us this spiritual “compass”
to continually guide us through the difficult times
and keep us from the attractions of the world. If you’re
feeling overwhelmed, enticed, convicted or miserable
today, check your “compass” and start heading home.
