We bless our kids through our prayers with them. I literally
put my hand on their heads and bless them, telling them how
God is going to use them. One day my daughter said, “Dad, God
has a great plan for my life. I know, I know.” Obviously, Mindy
has heard me tell her that fact more than once, so I replied,
“That’s absolutely right. God is going to use you! And I’m
praying that you marry a godly man. I’m praying that you’re in
the ministry in some way.” I just went on and on. “I don’t know
if you’re going to marry a pastor or a carpenter, but God is going
to use you and your husband some day.”
I have prayed a blessing over my kids hundreds of times!
Unfortunately, God’s laws are democratic, so the opposite is
also true. We can curse our kids. We curse them when we say
things like, “That’s stupid. You’re stupid. You’re never going to
amount to anything. You can’t be a child of mine, I knew you
couldn’t do it, on and on.”
Dads, we must take responsibility to bless our children,
verbally pronouncing a successful [godly] future for their lives.
