Kids thrive on hearing how much we love them, how proud we are of them, how happy we are to be their father. But try to say more than, “I’m proud of you.” Tell them why. They want to know. Once my daughter, Mindy, asked me, “Dad, why are you proud of me?” So I pointed out to her that I am proud of how she treats her sister, what a good friend she is, how she does her homework, on and on. That blessed her. When you tell your children you are proud of them, give them some reasons why. Build them up. Communicate by caring and taking the time to say that you love them.
