God:The Revealer of Secrets-Nancy Dufresne

DEVOTE YOURSELF
In First Timothy 4:13, Paul gave crucial instructions to
Timothy so that he would spend his life running the right
race.
Till I come, DEVOTE YOURSELF to [public and
private] reading, to exhortation (preaching and
personal appeals), and to teaching and instilling
doctrine.
(The Amplified Bible)
Too many ministers devote themselves to a myriad of
other things, including the work of the ministry, instead of
the Word; and it will cost them much. Guard what you’re
devoted to.
No man is fit to feed another man’s spirit if he hasn’t
fed his own. Paul devoted himself to the right things, and
instructs Timothy that he must do the same thing. Notice
that Paul tells Timothy to first devote himself to feeding
his own spirit before he ministers to other men.
Although Timothy was closely associated with this
apostle Paul, who changed the world, that association
could never substitute for a lack of devotion in feeding his
own spirit. Many ministers think that if they can just get
into close association with a successful minister, that their
own success will be assured. Although right associations
are imperative in the life of a minister, those associations
can never take the place of the fellowship a man must have
with God and His Word – that’s the only way to ensure success.
