On 9/11, when security is on everyone's minds, it reminds me about how, when I speak as a publisher with a writer , that so many are concerned about copyright for their book before it goes to print or is ready for publishing .
I always tell the writer that copyright before distribution and publishing can be protected by the time dating on the computer, even before the ISBN is offered. A publishing standard is to insert the ISBN # on a book for publishing, but not to send it to the copyright office until after it is printed . In either case, your book is protected.
