THE SAVING OF YOUR SOUL
James wrote a letter and instructed the brethren to, “…receive
with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to SAVE YOUR
SOULS” (James 1:21). James was telling these Christians that their
souls weren’t saved. Yes, their spirits were born again and saved, but
their souls (which are made up of the mind, the will and the emotions)
were still unsaved. He was telling them that they still had to
renew their minds with the Word of God.
The apostle John wrote in his letter, “Beloved, I wish above all
things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, EVEN AS THY
SOUL PROSPERETH” (III John 1:2). John was letting these believers
know that their prosperity and health were directly related to the
prosperity of their souls, the renewing of their minds. As they
renewed their minds with the Word of God, they were causing their
souls to prosper, which would cause the other arenas of their life to
prosper.
