Paul stated, “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…
.” What did he bring his body in subjection to? He brought his
body in subjection to his born again spirit. He kept his body under
the dominion of his own spirit. In other words, he let his spirit rule
him, not his body. Your flesh will still want to do wrong, even though
you’re born again, but you have to keep it under.
As you spend time with God through feeding on His Word and
in prayer, and as you act on that Word in your daily life, your spirit
will be strengthened and developed. As you strengthen and develop
your spirit, then it will be stronger than your flesh and you’ll be able
to keep your flesh under the dominion of your own spirit; you’ll keep
your flesh from dominating your life.
