Jesus said, “Behold, I give unto you power (authority) to tread on
serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and
nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19). Jesus is telling
us that we are the ones with the authority over the enemy. If he
opposes us, we are to exercise our authority over him – we are to
resist him.
Jesus also told us in Matthew 16:19, “And I will give unto thee
the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind
on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose
on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Jesus didn’t say, “I will give
unto thee the keys to the kingdom of heaven… .” We’re not locked
out of heaven; we don’t need keys to the kingdom – Jesus is the open
door. But Jesus said, “I will give unto you the keys of the kingdom
of heaven… .” He’s telling us the keys of how the kingdom of heaven
operates. What are the keys of the kingdom of heaven? Dominion
and authority. Heaven operates by exercising authority. Now, Jesus
says we have that same authority over our lives on this earth.
Whatsoever we bind shall be bound. Whatsoever we loose shall be
loosed.

A Sound, Disciplined Mind
YOU HAVE AUTHORITY
Jesus defeated Satan and stripped him, leaving him utterly
defeated. Colossians 2:15 tells us, “And having spoiled principalities
and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them
in it.” Other translations of this verse state that Satan and all evil
spirits were utterly defeated; they were brought to naught and
reduced to nothing.
Paul told us in Colossians 1:13 that God, “… hath delivered us
from the power (authority) of darkness, and hath translated us into
the kingdom of his dear Son.”We are no longer under Satan’s authority
and dominion; he has been stripped of his power to harm us. We
are now under the authority of God’s kingdom. Jesus defeated Satan,
but He didn’t do it for Himself – He did it for us. We don’t resist
Satan based on anything we’ve done, but based on what Jesus did for
us. When He defeated and stripped Satan of his authority to harm us,
He handed us the victory He won.

Trusting God in Troubled Times-Mrs. Carol Hopson
When it was safe enough, the congregation met at the
little church and wondered what they would do without
their precious Bibles. This one woman, with tear-filled eyes,
began tearing out page after page of her Bible. As she did
this, she handed one to every person there so that each
believer could have a page of God's Word. For twenty-five
years, this woman, who was speaking to us, had only one
page of God's Word...Genesis 16 and 17. As she held that
one well-worn, tear-stained page up for us to see, I couldn't
stop the tears from streaming down my face. How could I
take having all of God's Word so lightly? Do I really believe
that it is "a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path" (Psalm
119:105)? Or can I really say that,
Thy testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul
observes them. The unfolding of Thy words gives
light; it gives understanding to the simple.
(Psalm 119:129)

protection and he believed God would deliver him again...he
expected that God had something good in store for him...so he
prayed.

David’s prayers of praise, thanksgiving, and worship. The man
simply loved God and loved communicating with Him! Can you

A Sound Discipline Mind-N Dufresne
You must learn how to answer the devil. Answer him with the
Word of God. You can’t out-think him – answer him with God’s
Word in your mouth.
The enemy wants to capture your thought life, so he seeks to
inject thoughts. The only power the enemy has is the power of suggestion.
He will suggest a thought, and if he can get you to continually
turn it over in your thought life, then you could start believing it.
If you believe it, then you’ll speak it, and you’ll open the door to him.
But as a child of God, you have total and absolute authority over
him! As you stand your ground against him and resist the thoughts
he brings, he will flee from you. James 4:7 tells us, “Submit yourselves
therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
We’re not resisting him in ourselves; we are resisting him as one who
is in Christ – one who has been given authority over him.

The mind is the devil’s primary battleground. He attacks you in
the mental arena in an attempt to hold you in the mental arena, for
that’s his arena. If he can hold you in the mental arena, he’ll whip
you. But you are to hold him in the arena of faith. If you hold him in
the arena of faith – the arena of the spirit, then you’ll whip him. You
hold him in the arena of faith by answering wrong thoughts with the
Word of God and then by praising God for His Word.
When Jesus was in the wilderness being tempted of the devil for
forty days and forty nights, He answered every temptation with, “It
is written… ” (Luke 4). Jesus overcame every temptation by answering
the enemy with the Word of God. Jesus’ policy of dealing with
the devil was to answer him with “It is written.”
