In the 70s and 80s there was a particular individual on the radio who was one of the most-listened-to Christian talk show hosts in California. He owned hundreds of radio stations. During that time, there was “the Charismatic renewal” when God’s Holy Spirit awoke in the Church, renewing the truth about the importance of the baptism of the Holy Spirit [and speaking in tongues]. This movement shot across all denominational lines. Presbyterians, Lutherans, Catholics, etc. were all coming into this new fullness of the Holy Spirit. However, this man was rabidly against the movement! He would come on the radio Fearing the Lord Involves Respecting God’s Delegated Authority every day and rile against these leaders and against the speaking in tongues [which he maintained was of the devil]. In the 80s he wrote a book called 88 Reasons Why Jesus Christ is Coming in September of 1988. When I first saw that book, I thought, “Oh boy, here it comes. God’s judgment is coming on this guy!” Many people in my church showed me this book and quoted from it, giving “biblical reasons” why the end was going to happen in September, 1988. The book sold thousands of copies. Of course, September of 1988 came and went and Jesus did not come back. This man became totally discredited in most of the Body of Christ. Even as a pastor, whenever or wherever I come in contact
with God’s delegated authority in another ministry, I try to be
consistently careful about what I say about her or him. In these
last few years in our Christian culture, we have seen so many
self-appointed judges who have persecuted, maligned, slandered,
and gossiped against their fellow Christian brothers and sisters.
Most of these persecutions and accusations are usually about
non-essential issues or about methodology.
People castigate leaders in the Body of Christ over such
nonsense, and they are in trouble with God. Let me give you an
example.

A Sound, Disciplined Mind-Mrs Nancy Dufresne

They were feeling the boisterous wind. They were feeling the great bucking of the waves. They were seeing and feeling the water rise in the boat, but Jesus slept on. They were so overwhelmed with what they were feeling that they woke Jesus up so He could feel what they were feeling. When Jesus awoke, He felt what the disciples felt, but He was undisturbed by it. He didn’t allow what He felt to unsettle Him or change what He believed. He rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, then turned to the disciples and rebuked them by asking, “Where’s your faith?” They weren’t the ones who sent the storm. They weren’t the ones who filled the boat with water. But they were the ones who changed what they believed because of what they felt. In the face of the storm, Jesus exercised His authority. FAITH IN THE FACE OF THE STORM Jesus walked on the platform that day in the service and rebuked me by asking, “Where’s your faith?” Jesus asked His disciples that same question. Luke 8:22-25 tells of the incident when Jesus was in the back of the boat sleeping when a great storm arose. The boat started filling up with water and the disciples thought they would sink. Some of these men were fishermen; they were used to navigating through difficult conditions on the water, but the storm was great and they became fearful. Before they started their journey, Jesus had said, “…let us go over unto the other side…,” and they all believed they were going to reach the other side, so they launched off. But when the storm arose, they changed what they believed. They didn’t believe they were going to reach the other side anymore – they believed they were going to sink. As I was sitting there listening, I kept thinking, "What's wrong with this woman? Can't she see that her husband is trying his best and she is making it so much harder for him by her bitterness and resentment? Doesn't she know she is disobeying the Lord?" Good questions! But then I realized that I have had times when I disagreed with God's plans for me and couldn't see that He was doing what was best for me. We often quote Romans 8:28 in situations like this: "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." But we often stop there and don't read on…"For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son…" (Romans 8:29). I can assure you that it wasn't a pretty sight. Things had not gone the way she had planned in her marriage, and she had to give up her dreams and plans. As I listened and asked questions, I found out that she had a good Christian husband who was just trying to provide for his family, but this required moves and unexpected changes. They had to downsize their home, take fewer vacations, and shop in less exclusive stores for a time, and she did not like it. Fear of the Lord-Pastor David Hoffman

Friend, if you choose to fear God you must respect the delegated authority or find yourself in rebellion against God. And Moses said, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the Lord.” [Exodus 16:8] Moses responded to the grumblings and complaining against him because they did not have water. Moses talked to God and got the Israelites water. Next, they became angry because they did not have meat and bread to eat. Again, they grumbled at Moses who essentially said, “Hey, I didn’t want this job. I was happy in Midian until I experienced this burning bush. So here I am. Don’t you understand that you are not grumbling against me and Aaron?
