The Hebrew word translated “devourer” in this scripture is
‘akal. It means, “to eat, devour, BURN UP.” It never refers to
something good. This is no surprise—the devourer is Satan!
According to 1 Peter 5:8 Satan prowls around like a roaring
lion, seeking someone to devour. The Greek word in this
scripture that is translated “devour” is katapino, “to drink
down.” This verse literally means that Satan sneaks around
looking for someone to swallow up, drink down, devour and
destroy.
