Have there been times in your life when you asked,
"Does anyone care what I'm going through?" I've certainly
felt that way, especially when I didn't understand what God
was doing or allowing in my life. I knew God was mighty
and powerful, but did He care about my concerns? When
Abraham was ninety-nine years old, he needed reassurance
from God as to what He had promised him when he was
seventy-five years old. God had promised that he would
have a son and that his descendants would be as the stars
(Genesis 15:4-5). Abraham had waited twenty-four years
for this promise to be fulfilled, yet nothing had changed.
Now he and Sarah were past the child-bearing age.

Fear of the Lord-David Hoffman
This chapter is vital for the area of discipleship, and is not
triggered by any problem in our own church. In my years as a
pastor, I have always felt support from our church members.
Whenever Mark and I have felt God has given us a vision to go a
certain direction, we have felt the loving support from the
church.
Unfortunately, that is not true in many other churches.
What a blessing our church was when we decided to try to buy
the El Cajon Towne Center. We invited our church to come and
pray with us when we went before the El Cajon City Council. So
many of our church showed up that we had no room to put them
all! That was one of my most encouraging moments in my life of
being a pastor.

Respecting God’s Delegated Authority
In this chapter we are going to answer the question, “If I
choose to fear God, how does that affect how I treat, respond, or
react to God’s delegated authority in the church?” This chapter
will not cover authority in any other area beside that of the
Church.
Understanding spiritual authority is vital to the well-being of
the church. One of the main reasons why many pastors leave
their churches is because they grow weary of all the criticism,
dissention, fault-finding and constant questioning over every
decision they make. I know a man who recently stepped down
from the ministry simply because he became weary of all the
questioning. People contested every decision he made.

Prayer is not optional if you desire to experience God’s
presence and power. Prayer must be central in your life if you
choose to fear and obey Him.
If you have developed the discipline of daily prayer—
excellent! You know its value and no doubt live victoriously
despite the circumstances that come your way. But if you are not
making prayer a daily priority, accept that His mercies are new
every morning and begin fresh today. He longs to listen to the
things that are in your heart and on your mind.
Schedule a time and place right now that you will sit in
the presence of your loving Savior each day. It will be the
beginning of a good and rewarding habit!

possible that “you do not have because you do not ask”? If you do
not consistently seek God you are not accessing all He has for
you. If you are not persevering in prayer you are missing out on
miracles He is willing to perform on your behalf.
