One of my children is at an age where a physical touch is “like un-cool.” I need to respect that, but the Holy Spirit has told me that this child still needs contact with his Mom. Recently I noticed this child bouncing a basketball listlessly, waiting for Dad to come home so they could shoot some hoops. Because I knew he could use some attention, I said, “Would you like me to shoot some hoops with you?” to which he lovingly replied, “You?” He stared at my skinny little arms, and he knows that I am pretty uncoordinated. “Sure! I’ll shoot some hoops with you,” he replied. When I gave him my best moves, and started making some baskets, he said, “Hey, you can actually get it in the hoop!” We kind of looked at each other and smiled, then played for about 45 minutes. He didn’t know it at the time, but I was hugging him through shooting hoops. God gave me a way to still have contact with him.
