Now, if you think that children are born with a sweet,
obedient spirit and are just eager to obey and honor their
parents, you’ve probably never had children! On the contrary,
all parents know that children need to be taught to
obey their parents. I see this command as equally important
for parents as for children. How can children learn to
obey if their parents don’t require obedience? I’ve observed
this devastating behavior by parents hundreds of times.
They give a command to a child and the child cries or defies
them and the parent does nothing except look frustrated.
Sometimes, the parent will raise his or her voice to make
an impact, but the child knows there will be no other consequence
and so he continues with his self-centered ways.
We, as parents, are being disobedient to God’s Word when
we don’t discipline and disciple our children from the earliest
ages, to respect and honor their parents. This allows
for the breakdown of our homes.
