The "BABY and CHILD" analogy

Publishing a book is alot like pregnancy and raising a child. Yes, it's true they have some similarities. Think of the creation and printing side of publishing as the pregnancy; you can't wait untill it's over so you can hold your precious baby (or book). I know when my wife was pregnant she couldn't wait to be done with this whole pregnancy thing. So here we are at the hospital and my wife finally gives birth to our beautiful son and as she's looking into his big brown eyes she realizes one over whelming fact; that this ride isn't over, in fact the real hard part is yet to come, WE NEED TO RAISE OUR CHILD!. This is the same problem with most authors publishing books, they understand the pregnancy part of the job but that's where some stop. If you stop at the birth of your book and refuse to raise it than just like a little human who is neglected, the book will die. The bottom line is when your holding that precious bok for the first time, please make note that you need to raise the child and know your work has just begun.
