I attended graduate school at San Diego State University
where many of the professors possessed immense knowledge.
My statistics teacher certainly had more than I could
comprehend! She would begin writing a single equation on one
side of the blackboard and continue all the way to the other side!
Each day after class I went home, fell on my knees and cried,
“Lord, You’ve got to help me! There is no possible way I can
make it through statistics on my own!” It was only by God’s
grace that my final grade in that class was a B. I did not have
my professor’s vast knowledge of statistics, but I had enough
wisdom to appeal to the One who could get me through the class.

Fear of the Lord-Pastor Dave Hoffman
Knowledge is Never Enough
Please understand that wisdom and knowledge are not the
same things. You may have plenty of knowledge, but if you do
not have the wisdom to use your knowledge, it is useless.

David Hoffman-Fear of the Lord
If you belong to God, His plan for you is a life of blessing.
Fearing Him is the beginning of that blessing. First, you need to
know God’s instructions for your life and His word...that is
knowledge...but knowledge alone is useless. Wisdom is needed to
give knowledge potential. Wisdom is the ability to apply what you
know and understand, and the result is blessing. So then, an
important question to ask is: “How do I acquire knowledge and
wisdom?”
By fearing the Lord! Fearing the Lord is the beginning!

Pastor Dave Hoffman-Fear of the Lord
It All Begins With FEAR
Consider what King Solomon is saying in the two scriptures
below:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools
despise wisdom and instruction. [Proverbs 1:7]
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the
knowledge of the holy one is understanding.
[Proverbs 9:10]

Hoffman Dave-Fear of the Lord
The Bible is very clear: the more you know, the more you
become accountable [Luke 12:47-48; Hebrews 10:26-31].
Consequence for Disobedience
As my commitment to Jesus and my knowledge of His Word
has grown, so has my ability to see the consequences for
disobedience. Being a pastor certainly has helped me learn to fear
the Lord. I have the unique opportunity to see consequences
surface in the lives of other people as if I am watching a movie.
The plot unfolds right before my eyes. Time and time again I see
people reaping the consequences of doing things their way instead
of God’s. If there is anyone who has good cause to fear the Lord
(as I’ve seen people suffer consequences for disobedience] it is me!
On the other hand, I have seen the blessings that come when
someone fears the Lord and obeys Him.

Pastor Dave Hoffman-Fear of the Lord
I liked my life. Church was going well, family life was good,
I was building a new house! I had it made! Fearing God, a very
serious undertaking, would mean a deeper commitment to Him.
I know from experience that the more I commit myself to Jesus,
the more I understand His Word, the less freedom I have to
rationalize...and that usually means some things I enjoy are no
longer acceptable.

Learning to Fear the Lord
The Bible says that fearing the Lord is something you have to
learn [Deut. 4:10; 14:23 and 17:19]. It does not come by osmosis.
I put off writing this book for more than two years because I
knew it would undoubtedly mean making changes in my life.
