3) Pay attention
Your children need you to pay attention. I asked my children,
“What is the main responsibility I have to you?” They told me,

Sometimes I do not always understand what they are saying

Granted, I do not always hear exactly the words my children

better listener. So, I asked the Holy Spirit to be my hearing aid,
helping me hear what the child is really saying and needing.
Each day I pray, “Lord please interpret for me what my child is
saying and what he needs for me to hear.”

STAND YOUR GROUND All spiritual progress is going to be opposed. Every new phase or room of ministry is going to be opposed. That opposition includes attacks on the mind. The enemy will try to hold you out of the arena of faith, the spirit arena, and in the mental arena by launching fiery darts against the mind, but you are to quench every one of those fiery darts through faith in God’s Word. Refuse to turn those wrong thoughts over in your mind and answer them by speaking God’s Word from your spirit. When you successfully resist the devil in one arena, he may move to another arena, but stand your ground firmly on God’s Word, for God’s Word will never fail you as you hold fast to it. Jesus faced a season of testing and temptation that lasted forty days and nights, but as He answered every temptation by speaking the Word of God, He emerged victorious and full of the Spirit (Luke 4). When faced with tests, we are to rejoice, for we know that as we stand our ground by speaking the Word of God, regardless of what we see, feel or hear, we will reach the other side of the test, for the victory is ours! STEP OVER IT! Paul stated, “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries” (I Corinthians 16:9). Where are the adversaries? They are at the door trying to hinder or block your entrance into the new places God is leading you. But as you keep moving forward and refuse to draw back, you will move past all opposition. As Peter said, don’t think this opposition is a strange thing – it is a strategy of the enemy to try to hinder or block your progress. Just keep moving ahead! Jesus told us, “Behold, I give unto you power (authority) to step over serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19). One definition for the word “tread” is to step over. Always remember in the face of all opposition that the enemy is a defeated foe. Always remember that Jesus spoiled principalities and powers (Colossians 2:15); He disarmed them, He exposed them as shattered, empty and defeated, and He reduced them to nothing. Jesus’ defeat of the enemy is total and complete. You don’t have to do anything else to defeat the devil – he is defeated! You don’t have to fight him – he is a defeated foe already! Jesus did that for you! The only fight we’re told to engage in is the good fight of faith (I Timothy 6:12). You fight the good fight of faith by taking your stand on the Word of God and refusing to be swayed from it. This is done by speaking and holding to God’s Word in the face of all opposition. Stand your ground rejoicing, for victory is yours, no matter what opposes you. “…Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (I John 4:4). The greater One is in you. The Spirit of God on the inside of you is the greater One and the devil is the lesser one! The devil is no match for the greater One that’s in you. Any time you move forward in God, come into a new phase or room of ministry, come into greater revelation of the Word, or into a deeper place of the Spirit, the enemy is going to oppose you to try to hinder or block your progress. Don’t think it’s strange that the fiery trial comes. Don’t slip into the mental arena or become fearful, wondering why the enemy seeks to oppose you. God does not give us the luxury of complaining about our marriages. I needed to learn to identify and confess anger, bad attitudes and unrealistic expectations because I wanted to obey God’s command to love and respect my husband. One of the best books I have read on understanding my husband is The Five Languages of Love. After I read that book, I began to understand my husband better, and was more equipped to be his helpmate. Man’s greatest need beside the relationship with his Heavenly Father is to have a family to care for. Being a helpmate means you make it easy for your husband to love and care for you. Tell him often you need and appreciate his help. Praise him for working hard, and for his help with the children. Encourage him through his failures. There are many stories of God’s encouragement in the Bible. My favorite is the story of Gideon in Judges, chapter 6. Imagine, Gideon was hiding from his enemies when God called him a valiant warrior! Let me illustrate this with a story. My husband and I had gone away for a ten-day camping and fishing trip to Mammoth Lakes. We had looked forward to it so much and had a great time relaxing, fishing, enjoying the family, and exploring the great outdoors. However, after ten days, it was a good feeling to pull into our driveway and get back to our own beds, but we had loved the time together. As we opened the garage door, we noticed a strong odor…what could it be? We walked toward our extra refrigerator-freezer that we kept in the garage and could hardly stand the smell. My husband bravely opened the door, and we about passed out! You see, the electricity had gone out while we were gone, and the temperature soared. So we had a freezer full of rotten salmon that my husband had caught on a previous fishing trip. You can't even imagine the stench. I'm pinching my nose as I write this just thinking about it. Secondly, he realized that he had no power to cleanse his own heart, so He asked God to create a clean heart in him. The word create here denotes "to make from nothing," so David realized that there was nothing good in himself; it was all rotten, and only God could give him a clean heart.
